Mandatory Training Attendance

Cadets are expected to attend all regular training. Cadets need to have a minimum of 60% attendance plus completion of all POs to pass their training level. Attendance is the primary basis for selection to opportunities such as summer training, trips, etc. Failing to keep a minimum of 60% attendance on Mandatory Training can result in suspension of Optional Training privileges.

If you need to miss a training, it is the cadet’s responsibility to contact Admin beforehand to obtain an excused absence. Use the Absence Notification Form on the website or call the squadron voicemail at 403-263-0300 and leave a message indicating your name, your flight, date, and reason for absence. Following an absence, liaise with your Level Officer to ensure you complete the missed training.

If there is no notification of the absence, then it is considered an Unexcused Absence. Thirty days or more consecutive absences without prior permission from the Commanding Officer can result in a cadet being taken off of our parading strength and possibly out of the program. There are situations that arise where the cadet has no prior knowledge of absences (e.g., sickness in the family); these are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Attendance for Mandatory Support and Optional Training

Some training required to complete training levels occurs on weekends. Mandatory weekend training includes: familiarization flying, at least one weekend survival exercise per year, Remembrance Day Ceremonies, and one citizenship activity (e.g., poppy sales, cemetery clean-up, etc.). If you sign up for an activity and fail to attend without notice, it will count against you for future optional events. It is important for you to inform us as soon as possible because you are potentially taking away the opportunity from another cadet.

There is a nominal roll taken at every event, and it is the cadet’s responsibility to ensure he/she signs it.

Selection Process for Fun/Optional Activities:

Throughout the training year, we will have fun events/trips for the cadets. In the event there are more applicants than spots available, the following are the criteria used:

  1. Squadron Attendance at mandatory training / support training activities,
  2. Cadet Attendance at optional training,
  3. Cadet Attendance at Fundraising activities (not including casinos),
  4. Cadet Deportment/discipline,
  5. Sufficient rank structure to support the event (if necessary, structure is not met), and
  6. Cadet time in the program (if necessary).

NOTE: Parental involvement has no bearing on the selection process.
